Dear Colleagues,

Hope you all enjoyed reading the opening issue of the IRA newsletter.

In this, the 2nd issue, we’ve tried to include articles of practical use to us in our OPDs. The clinical utility of ANA testing is one of them. The Anti-Car P antibodies might come around to be useful in the future. Nausea has been not an uncommon problem with the use of methotrexate and polansetron may be a promising drug to tackle this. There has been debate on the use of Vit D in knee and hip osteoarthritis – in this issue is a 22 year old study that answers this question. The SMILE study summarises the results of long term use of methotrexate in combination with leflunomide – something we do commonly in our patients of rheumatoid arthritis. Due to cost constraints, once remission is achieved we do maintain with lower doses of biologics – presented here are the results of use of low dose etanercept in ankylosing spondylitis subjects.

We will try and take up different aspects of rheumatologic diseases and make the newsletter more theme based in the upcoming issues.

Best wishes

Dr Banwari Sharma
