President’s Message

Aman Sharma

Dear Friends
It is a profound honour to assume the Presidency of the Indian Rheumatology Association, an organisation that has steadfastly championed the cause of rheumatology in India. The IRA serves as the national organisation for rheumatologists committed to the diagnosis, treatment, research, and education pertaining to rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

My vision for the Association is built upon a foundation of inclusive engagement and strategic aspiration. I am committed to fostering a culture that values the wisdom andexperience of our senior members while simultaneously empowering our current and emerging leaders. By embracing diverse perspectives across all career stages, we will strengthen our collective capacity to address both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Central to this vision is a renewed emphasis on academic excellence. This includes expanding continuing medical education, workshops, research forums, and specialised training programs designed to enhance clinical excellence and scientific discovery. Our flagship publications, the Indian Journal of Rheumatology, and IRA e Newsletter will continue to play an important role in dissemination of knowledge

In alignment with our academic mandate, we will amplify efforts to increase awareness of rheumatic diseases and the vital role of rheumatologists in modern healthcare. Public engagement and advocacy are integral to improving early diagnosis, patient outcomes, and broader understanding of conditions that impact millions across our nation. Month of April has been designated as Rheumatological diseases awareness month by IRA.

Expanding the reach of rheumatology into medical education is another priority. By strengthening collaborations with medical schools and training programmes, we aim to inspire and equip future generations of physicians with a foundational appreciation for rheumatologic care.

Furthermore, a key strategic objective under my leadership will be to fortify IRA’s global partnerships. Building stronger linkages with international rheumatology bodies will enhance collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and global representation of Indian expertise.

I look forward to working collaboratively with our members as we advance the mission of the IRA—promoting excellence in rheumatology, expanding our impact, and ultimately serving patients with the highest standards of care.

With commitment to service and shared progress,

Best Wishes,
Aman Sharma
