President’s Message
Dear Colleagues,
It gives me immense pride and privilege to preside over the vibrant Indian Rheumatology Association. I convey my sincere thanks to the members of the IRA for giving me the chance to serve. Over the past three decades, rheumatology has grown by leaps and bounds, establishing itself as a sought-after specialty for new medical postgraduates and both academic and non-academic institutions.
However, certain challenges persist, such as regional disparities and non-uniformity in training standards. With the increasing number of professionals, the focus needs to shift towards ensuring and maintaining high-quality standards. The second aspect involves increasing opportunities, considering the growing number of trained rheumatologists. This becomes the next focal point to ensure their appropriate utilization in delivering quality rheumatology care for the benefit of society.
Another area where India should shine and take the lead is in research. We are a country with an ingrained quest for truth and facts, and research is a fundamental part of our ethos. Surprisingly, however, we are either underrepresented or have failed to project and optimally utilize our talent. It is now time to raise our standards in this field.
With a strong executive committee, the IRA will strive to achieve new goals to serve both professionals and the public in the field of rheumatology.
At your service
